Understand your options

A Brazilian Butt Lift, or BBL, uses fat taken by liposuction from another area and transferred to the buttocks. The goal is a change in shape and volume. It is not the same as removing loose skin, and fat grafting carries important risks that deserve a detailed consultation.

Shape, donor fat and realistic expectations

Your existing proportions, skin quality and available donor fat limit what can be achieved. Transferred fat does not all survive; final volume is not identical to the amount initially injected. A very lean person may not have enough donor fat. Weight changes can alter the contour after healing, and no size or shape can be guaranteed.

A safety conversation that cannot be skipped

Gluteal fat grafting can cause a fat embolism, a potentially fatal complication when fat enters the circulation. Other risks include infection, bleeding, blood clots, fat necrosis, asymmetry and anesthesia complications. Ask your surgeon about injection depth, real-time ultrasound guidance, current Florida requirements and the facility’s emergency procedures. This page does not establish which technique a particular facility uses.

Preparing for a BBL consultation

Discuss health, nicotine use, previous procedures and your ability to follow positioning restrictions through the clinical provider’s intake process. Ask whether a different operation, no surgery or a staged plan is more appropriate. Do not gain weight or stop medication on the basis of internet advice.

Sitting, travel and follow-up

Pressure on the treated area may need to be limited during recovery. Obtain written instructions for sitting, sleep positions, compression, walking and wound care. A car journey from Miami-Dade or Broward still requires planning around those restrictions. Ask when you may travel and how urgent concerns will be assessed after you return home.

Common questions

General education to prepare for your consultation. Individual recommendations belong with your physician.

Is a BBL risk-free because it uses my own fat?

No. Using your own tissue does not eliminate surgical risk, including potentially fatal fat embolism. A careful safety discussion is essential.

Will a BBL remove loose buttock skin?

Fat transfer adds volume; it does not remove excess skin. Skin laxity may call for a different approach, with different scars and risks.

How long do results last?

Some transferred fat is absorbed during healing. Remaining fat may persist, but aging and weight changes affect the result. There is no guaranteed survival percentage or duration.
