Understand your options

Rhinoplasty changes nasal shape and may address selected functional concerns. Facial proportions, breathing, skin thickness and the structure of the nose all influence what can be considered. Cosmetic and airway goals should be discussed separately.

A nose in balance with your face

Consultations may explore the bridge, tip, width and asymmetry in relation to the rest of the face. Photos of another person can help describe preferences but cannot serve as a promised result. Computer simulations, if used, are communication tools rather than guarantees.

Breathing and previous nasal surgery

Tell the physician about nasal obstruction, injuries and prior procedures through the clinical intake process. Breathing symptoms may require evaluation of the septum or other structures; a cosmetic rhinoplasty does not automatically resolve them. Revision surgery can be more complex because anatomy and scar tissue have changed.

Technique, incisions and risks

Open and closed approaches differ in incision placement and exposure; neither is best for everyone. Risks include bleeding, infection, scarring, altered sensation, persistent asymmetry, breathing difficulties and the possibility of further surgery. Ask what structural limits affect your plan and how complications would be managed.

Swelling, protection and follow-up

Bruising and swelling can affect early appearance, and nasal refinement may continue well beyond the initial recovery period. Ask about splints, nose care, glasses, exercise and protection from accidental impact. Arrange clinical review before making return-flight or work plans; social downtime and complete healing are not the same thing.

Common questions

General education to prepare for your consultation. Individual recommendations belong with your physician.

Can rhinoplasty improve my breathing?

Some structural concerns may be addressed, but an airway assessment is needed. Ask whether the proposed operation includes functional treatment or is cosmetic only.

Will the final result be visible immediately?

No. Swelling obscures the early result and resolves gradually. The pace varies with the operation, skin and individual healing.

Can I request someone else’s exact nose?

Reference images can explain your preferences, but your anatomy limits what is achievable. The goal should be discussed in the context of your own face.
