Understand your options

A facelift, or rhytidectomy, addresses selected changes in the lower face and jawline by repositioning tissue and managing excess skin. Neck concerns may require additional planning. It does not stop aging or replace treatment for every facial concern.

What a facelift does—and does not address

Jowls, lower facial laxity and related contour concerns may be discussed. Eyelids, brow position, skin texture and pigmentation are separate issues and may need different approaches. Nonsurgical options have different capabilities and limitations; they are not interchangeable with surgery.

A personalized approach rather than a technique label

The surgical plan depends on tissue quality, facial anatomy, prior procedures and your goals. Technique names do not establish suitability or superiority. Ask about incision placement, treatment of deeper tissues, whether neck work is included and what changes are realistic without overcorrection.

Health assessment and important risks

Your physician considers medical conditions, nicotine use, medications and blood-pressure management through clinical assessment. Risks include hematoma, infection, poor wound healing, skin loss, visible scars, hairline changes, facial nerve injury and anesthesia complications. Ask how urgent swelling or bleeding would be evaluated.

Recovery, privacy and follow-up in Miami

Plan time for swelling, bruising, dressings and follow-up visits. Ask when hair washing, makeup, work and exercise are appropriate. An adult escort and nearby support can be important after anesthesia. A photograph taken early in recovery is not a reliable measure of the final contour, and aging continues after healing.

Common questions

General education to prepare for your consultation. Individual recommendations belong with your physician.

Does a facelift treat the eyelids too?

Not automatically. Eyelid surgery is a separate procedure with its own risks. Confirm exactly which areas the proposed operation includes.

Are nonsurgical treatments the same as a facelift?

No. They may address selected concerns but do not reproduce all the structural changes of surgery. Discuss alternatives and their limits before deciding.

How long will the improvement last?

Aging continues, and skin quality, sun exposure and individual factors affect later appearance. A fixed number of years cannot be promised.
