Understand your options

A breast lift, or mastopexy, reshapes breast tissue and removes excess skin to change breast position. It does not necessarily add volume. The incision pattern depends on the degree of skin laxity and the changes being considered.

Lift, augmentation or both?

A lift addresses position and skin excess; an implant addresses volume. If the concern is heaviness or size, reduction may be a different discussion. Your physician evaluates nipple position, tissue quality, asymmetry and your preferred proportions rather than treating these options as interchangeable.

Scars and trade-offs

Incisions may surround the areola, extend vertically beneath it, and sometimes follow the breast crease. Scars are a permanent trade-off, even when they soften over time. Ask which pattern is proposed, how nipple sensation may change and what degree of symmetry is realistic.

Candidacy and risks

Stable weight, breast health and future pregnancy or breastfeeding plans influence timing. Risks include infection, bleeding, wound-healing problems, altered sensation, asymmetry and reduced blood supply to the nipple or skin. Combining a lift with implants adds implant-specific risks and may not be appropriate for everyone.

Recovery and lasting changes

Follow your clinical team’s instructions for dressings, a supportive bra, lifting and exercise. Swelling may temporarily affect shape. Aging, gravity, pregnancy and weight changes can alter breast position later; a lift does not stop those processes. Arrange follow-up even if you travel to Miami from a surrounding community.

Common questions

General education to prepare for your consultation. Individual recommendations belong with your physician.

Does a breast lift make breasts larger?

Not by itself. It reshapes and repositions existing tissue. Volume goals require a separate conversation about augmentation and its risks.

Can a lift be performed without scars?

No surgical breast lift is scar-free. The incision pattern depends on the correction needed and should be explained before you decide.

Will breastfeeding still be possible?

Breast surgery may affect breastfeeding and nipple sensation. Discuss your plans and the proposed technique with the physician; no individual outcome can be guaranteed.
